Renato Hausammann qualified for the second place at the National Cocktail Competition, on
October 6, 1959, in St. Vincent, Italy. His winning cocktail creation, Colonello, was a solid
mixture of three parts Eristoff Vodka to one part Tio Pepe sherry. Other liquid libations that sprung from his creative mind were Dolce Vita (vodka, Cointreau & grapefruit juice, as in a 3-2-1
formula) and Emanuela (equal parts of vodka, dry vermouth & peach juice).
Renato Hausammann is nowadays renowned as the creator of Puccini, a sublime concoction
that has gained worldwide acclaim from bartenders and cocktail connoisseurs, although it
s exact origins are unknown. Named after the famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, pictured right (Puccini has been known for being the greatest composer of Italian opera after Verdi), it is a delicious mixture of sparkling white wine and fresh tangerine juice. The Puccini would
eventually bring Renato Hausammann his well-deserved immortality.
