Prepare two melon balls by soaking them in the Coruba Rum. Pour ingredients in a large shaker, filled with ice cubes. Shake, strain and decorate with the melon balls, as well as a sprig of fresh mint. Whilst drinking the cocktail, eat the melon balls: there is a “kick in the balls”.
Beaumont’s favorite signature cocktail is Kick in the Balls first published in Alex Beaumont’s 101 Cocktails, a neat little cocktail book that came out in 1988. Beaumont recollected then: “I created this cocktail in 1982 so that I could enter it into a competition run by an Australian television station. It was a zany program called, "Hey hey, it's Saturday," and it was the most popular program on a Saturday night. So I knew that it had to stand out from the rest of the entries. The Australian taste in cocktails at that time was sweet and creamy. Piña Colada’s and Golden Dreams were the most popular cocktails at that time, so I knew I had to base my taste on that style to stand the chance of winning. After many hours of creating and tasting I came up with the winning formula of Kick in the Balls”. Beaumont always felt that the name of the cocktail had a great deal to do with him winning this competition.
