2,5 cl Catz® Dry Gin
2,5 cl De Kuyper Crème de Cacao Brown
2,5 cl Cream
Chocolate or nutmeg (optional)
Pour all ingredients in a large cocktail shaker, filled with ice, shake and strain in a double cocktail glass. Garnish with pulverized cinnamon, grated nutmeg or sprinkled chocolate (optional, the original Alexander-recipe does not call for any decoration or garnish).
There are many theories about the location where the Alexander cocktail first originated, but the most popular is that it was created at The Racquet Club of Philadelphia (RCOP), which was incorporated in 1889. There is printed evidence of the occasion: in the October 3rd, 1915 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer, an article was published that read: “The head bartender has even gone so far as to invent an Alexander cocktail, which he is reserving to be served during the World Series.” The article referred to the RCOP and the 1915 World Series which was won by Boston beating Philadelphia. The bartender created the cocktail in honor of Philadelphia pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander.
